Description of previous assignment:
· Student selects a partner, then signs up for a particular topic (see above list, which is not inclusive)
· In the past, students prepared separately, even though encouraged to work as a team. Came time for their report, they gave it separately, since getting together was difficult since they work full time or live a distance away. This lack of team work, lead to little connections to each other as a health care provider as they covered specific guidelines. The most independently given presentation/paper was the Transition to RN Role paper….LPN gives their report, Paramedic gives their report….no connection with often the state of denial for needed change in some students

Rationale for assignment revision:
Nursing involves team work among patient/family, other nurses and many different disciplines outside of nursing. Since Transition to RN role is the basis of this course, the goal is to develop more intense descriptions of role changes that will need to occur prior to graduation and there-after. Many LPNs, believe they act as the RN now in their role, and do not see that changes do need to occur before graduation and work as an RN. I think by making this a wiki assignment, we would see progress during the entire course so it is clear near the end of the course, that changes do occur as they develop into the RN role. ALL students would work on this, not just hear it from 2 students as in the past.

Technology to be used:
· At least the Wiki software, internet seraches, possibly a video cam/recorder.

Instructions students will need to use technology:
(I need to learn more about it myself before I can actually write student instructions)

Brief description of content students will need to accomplish assignment (textbook, websites, lectures, videos, resources):
· Personal experiences in their role would be shared on the wiki. Each student would become engrossed in this project by searching the web for sites that support the need to change. Interview of grads who have been working as an RN….this could be online (somehow….need to learn this) and F2F to have been out in practice from one to five years. Online PowerPoint Lecture on transition, plus reading selected chapters in the text: LPN to RN Transition by Harrington.

Instructions for students to complete assignment:
· I will need to orient them to a wiki per F2F and online
· I could link them from Educator to the wiki site with specific instructions
· Give them specific examples of how they could draw in others into their wiki to enhance it prior to submission (I need to learn this, experience it more myself)

Grading criteria, rubric, and assessment:
· Teamwork points would be added to the Grading Guideline sheet (may change this to a rubric)
§ Points from me as I can see how they have worked as a team on this project (I’d develop a rubric for this)
§ Points from peers according to a rubric
